Meletios Dimopoulos, MD, is a professor at and chairman of the Department of Clinical Therapeutics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine, Greece. He was previously dean of the medical school and rector of the university.

Clinical focus and interest:

Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia, plasma cell dyscrasias, and genitourinary and gynecologic cancers.

Experience:

Professor Dimopoulos received his medical degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1985. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Royal Victoria Hospital, McGill University, in Montreal, Canada, and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, USA.

Affiliations:

Currently, Professor Dimopoulos is the chair of the Greek Myeloma Study Group and the Balkan Myeloma Study Group. He serves on the scientific advisory boards of the International Myeloma Foundation and the International Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Foundation, and is a board member of the European Myeloma Network. Professor Dimopoulos received the Waldenström Award for myeloma research from the International Myeloma Society, and the Multiple Myeloma Excellence Award from the World Congress on Controversies in Multiple Myeloma. In May 2018, he was elected as a foreign associate member of the National Academy of Medicine of France. He holds memberships with the American Medical Association, ACP, ASH, ASCO, the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, ESMO, and EHA.
